The Houston Astros and the Baltimore Orioles meet for game one of their four game set to close out the regular season from Camden Yards on Thursday.

The Houston Astros will look to finish the season strong in this series after failing to complete the sweep of Toronto with a 3-1 loss in the series finale on Wednesday. Carlos Correa accounted for the lone Astro RBI in the loss, while Myles Straw had two hits and Jake Marisnick and Yuli Gurriel each had a base hit as none of Houston’s five hits went for extra bases in the loss. Chris Devenski took the loss, falling to 2-3 this season after allowing two runs in just two innings of work. Gerrit Cole will start game one and is 15-5 with a 2.92 ERA and 272 strikeouts this season. This will be Cole’s first career start against Baltimore.

John Glaser-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Orioles will look to give the fans something to look forward to next season as they play their final set at home after a doubleheader with Boston on Wednesday. The O’s lost the first game by a 19-3 rout, where Renato Nunez had a two run home run and Trey Mancini had a solo homer to make up Baltimore’s scoring in the opening loss. Ryan Meisinger didn’t make it out of the first inning, allowing five runs on four hits to fall to 2-1 this season. In game two, the Orioles won 10-3 with the aforementioned Mancini leading the way with a triple and three RBIs while John Andreoli and Renato Nunez each had two RBIs. Tanner Scott got the win while Paul Fry picked up his 2nd save of the season. David Hess will start game one and is 3-10 with a 5.14 ERA and 70 strikeouts this season. This will be Hess’ first career start against Houston.

Houston is 11-1 in Cole’s last 12 starts against a team with a losing record and 25-8 in their last 33 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against the AL East. Baltimore is 3-14 in Hess’ last 17 starts and 17-38 in their last 55 home games while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games overall. Houston is 21-7 in the last 28 meetings between these two teams and 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams in Baltimore.

Baltimore will be feeling positive after taking the second half of the double dip yesterday, but the fact is that the Orioles still had to play twice as much baseball as the Astros on Wednesday and Houston’s game with Toronto also finished a few hours earlier so Houston has somewhat of a rest advantage. And that’s on top of the massive pitching edge the Astros have. Combine that with the edge from top to bottom in the lineup and Houston’s need to gain momentum with the playoffs starting next week, and I think the Astros take this one by a couple of runs on Thursday.
