The Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets meet in the finale of their three game NL East division set from Citi Field in MLB action on Thursday.
The Atlanta Braves will look to bounce back after having their six game winning streak snapped with a 3-0 loss in game two on Wednesday. Ronald Acuna Jr. and Johan Camargo had a base hit as the Braves had just two hits while the rest of the team went 0 for 21 with 9 strikeouts. Sean Newcomb threw five shutout innings, allowing just one hit while walking four and striking out eight, not factoring in the decision while Luke Jackson took the loss to fall to 1-2 this season. Julio Teheran will start the finale and is 9-8 with a 4.03 ERA and 157 strikeouts this season. In his career, Teheran is 9-6 with a 2.42 ERA and 112 strikeouts against the Mets.

The New York Mets will look to win the set after taking game two on Wednesday. Dominic Smith went 2 for 4 with a solo home run and two RBIs total while Michael Conforto went 2 for 3 with a solo homer of his own along with a double to round out the Mets’ scoring in the win. Jeff McNeil added a double and Amed Rosario added a base hit to cap off New York’s offense in victory. Jacob deGrom threw eight shutout innings, striking out 10 to improve to 10-9 and finish the year with a 1.70 ERA. Seth Lugo closed out the 9th for his 3rd save of the year. Jason Vargas will start the finale and is 6-9 with a 6.25 ERA and 78 strikeouts this season. In his career, Vargas is 1-2 with a 5.60 ERA and 16 strikeouts against Atlanta.
Atlanta is 5-1 in Teheran’s last 6 starts and 6-1 in their last 7 games overall while the over is 7-0 in their last 7 games following a loss. New York is 5-1 in Vargas’ last 6 starts and 4-1 in their last 5 home games while the under is 6-0 in Vargas’ last 6 home starts. Atlanta is 5-1 in Teheran’s last 6 road starts against the Mets.
Both of these starters come in in solid form, with the Mets winning on Wednesday while also winning five of Vargas’ last six starts. However, Vargas has an ERA well over six against the Braves this season and the Braves have won five of Teheran’s last six starts as well. The Braves want to pick up steam heading into their final series, and I think they do just that with a win on Thursday.
