The Houston Astros will visit the Baltimore Orioles on Friday at Oriole Park as the two teams begin their MLB series.

We were supposed to have the opening game on Thursday night, but that one was rained out. The Thursday game will be made up during a doubleheader on Saturday.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Houston Astros - 9/28/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

John Glaser-USA TODAY Sports

For Friday’s game, the Astros will be going with Gerrit Cole. Across 194.1 innings and a 15-5 mark this year, Cole has a 2.92 ERA with 272 Ks.

Tops in hitting for the Astros is Alex Bregman, who brings 169 hits, 104 runs, 31 homers and 103 RBI into this set. Jose Altuve isn’t far behind with his 165 hits, 84 runs, 13 homers and 61 RBI.

Over on the Orioles’ side, on Friday they’re going with David Hess. In 96.1 innings and a 3-10 record this season, Hess has a 5.14 ERA with 70 Ks.

Baltimore’s lead bat is Adam Jones, who enters this set on 159 hits, 54 runs, 15 homers and 62 RBI. Trey Mancini is second on the team with 138 hits, 68 runs, 24 homers and 57 RBI.

The Astros are 42-16 in their last 58 in game two of a series and 29-13 in their last 42 Friday games. Houston is 11-5 in Cole’s last 16 road starts and 23-8 in his last 31 starts.

Meanwhile, the Orioles are 15-42 in their last 57 in game two of a series and 11-31 in their last 42 Friday games. The over is 14-5 in Baltimore’s last 19 in game two of a series and 5-0 in their last five Friday games.

This will be Cole’s final start of the regular season, and he’ll probably inch past the 200-inning mark here. Cole is 5-0 with a 3.54 ERA in his last seven starts. As for Hess, he’s coming off a solid showing against the Yankees in his last outing Saturday. Still, everything considered I have to go Astros here.
