The Oakland A’s and the Los Angeles Angels meet in their regular season finale from Angel Stadium in MLB Action on Sunday.
The Oakland A’s will look to head into the wild card game with momentum after taking game two on Saturday by a final score of 5-2. Jed Lowrie and Khris Davis each had a home run and two RBIs with Davis launching a two-run shot while Lowrie hit a solo jack. Stephen Piscotty added an RBI to cap off the A’s scoring in the win, while Ramon Laureano, Chad Pinder and Mark Canha each had a double. Jonathan Lucroy added a base knock of his own to finish off Oakland’s offense in the win. Trevor Cahill got the win in relief to improve to 7-4 this season while Blake Treinen struck out a pair in the 9th for his 38th save of the year. Brett Anderson will start the finale and is 4-5 with a 4.42 ERA and 42 strikeouts this season. In his career, Anderson is 2-3 with a 3.36 ERA and 40 strikeouts against the Angels.

The Los Angeles Angels will look to finish their season on a high note after dropping game two on Saturday. Kaleb Cowart and Jose Fernandez each had an RBI while Andrelton Simmons and Taylor Ward each added a base knock as the Halos cranked out just four hits as a team in the losing effort. Tyler Skaggs took the loss, falling to 8-10 this season, allowing three runs on four hits over 3.1 innings of work. Matt Shoemaker will start the finale and is 2-2 with a 4.82 ERA and 30 strikeouts this season. In his career, Shoemaker is 6-3 with a 4.11 ERA and 59 strikeouts against the A’s.
Oakland is 62-28 in their last 90 games overall and 27-11 in their last 38 Sunday games while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 road games. Los Angeles is 10-4 in Shoemaker’s last 14 division starts a 19-43 in their last 62 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 7-3-1 in their last 11 games overall. The over is 5-0 in Shoemaker’s last 5 starts against Oakland.
Anderson hasn’t been great and is coming off of an outing where he allowed five runs to the Mariners. However, the A’s have been one of, if not the most profitable baseball team in the majors in the second half, and Shoemaker allowed five runs in 2.2 innings against these same Oakland A’s just over a week ago and has allowed eight runs in 8.1 innings against Oakland this season. I think this is a game that Anderson can use to work out the kinks and help get Oakland some steam with the wild card game around the corner, so I’ll side with the A’s here.
