The Philadelphia Phillies and the Cincinnati Reds will match up on the MLB diamond Tuesday.
In the opener of this set on Monday, the Phillies banged out a 7-1 victory.
For the Tuesday game, the Phillies will send out Vince Velasquez in the start. Across his 96.1 innings and 6-7 record so far, Velasquez has a 4.86 ERA with 103 Ks and 35 BBs.
Philly logged six hits in the Monday victory. Only Rhys Hoskins had more than one knock, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two homers.
Over on the Reds’ side, they’re going with Alex Wood in the start Tuesday. Over his 35.2 innings and 1-3 record so far, Wood has a 5.80 ERA with 30 Ks and nine walks.
Cincinnati had seven hits in the Monday loss, but couldn’t translate much to the scoreboard. Senzel, Aquino and Iglesias each had two knocks.
The Phillies are 10-2 in their last 12 Tuesday games and 6-16 in Velasquez’s last 22 road starts. Philly is 1-6 in Velasquez’s last seven Tuesday starts and 1-4 in his last five with five days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Reds are 0-5 in Wood’s last five starts and 0-5 in his last five on grass. The under is 17-7 in Cincinnati’s last 24 Tuesday games and 3-0-1 in Wood’s last four starts with four days’ rest.
Velasquez had a rough outing in Miami but did bounce back in his last start with two earned on five hits in 5.0 innings. He’s 2-0 over his last three starts.
As for Wood, he’s coming off a quality start his last time up but prior to that had three straight losses. I probably like Velasquez a little better right now, so I’m going Phillies.
