The Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies will meet up on the MLB diamond Monday.
The Braves are coming out of a series against the Nationals. Atlanta took the first three games of that set 4-2, 4-3 and 5-4. In the Sunday finale, the Braves fell 9-4.
For the Monday start, the Braves will send out Mike Foltynewicz. In his 92.0 innings and 5-5 record this year, Foltynewicz has a 5.28 ERA with 81 Ks and 34 BBs.
Over on the Philadelphia side, they just finished up against the Mets. Philly split the first two games of that series, then in the rubber match on Sunday the Phillies won 10-7.
Philly will send out Aaron Nola in the start Monday. Across 178.2 innings and a 12-4 mark so far, Nola has a 3.63 ERA with 200 Ks and 67 BBs.
The Braves are 5-2 in the last seven in game one of a series and 5-0 in Foltynewicz’s last five road starts. Atlanta is 9-0 in Foltynewicz’s last nine starts and 2-6 in his last eight starts.
Meanwhile, the Phillies are 4-1 in their last five Monday games and 30-12 in Nola’s last 42 one starts. Philly is 2-5 in Nola’s last seven Monday starts and 0-4 in his last four with four days’ rest.
Foltynewicz has been pretty good over his last four starts, giving up just five earned in 21.1 innings of work, but he’s just 1-0 in that time.
As for Nola, he had four straight quality starts going but faltered in Cincinnati with five earned in 4.0 innings his last time up. Still, I like Nola to bounce back here so I feel like the Phillies have a good shot.
