The Oakland Athletics and the Houston Astros will match up on the MLB diamond Tuesday.
In the opener of this set Monday, Houston jumped out of the gate with six runs in the first inning and five more in the second and didn’t let up for most of the game. When it was over, Houston had a 15-0 shutout win, out-hitting the A’s 17-3.
The A’s will send out Tanner Roark in the start Tuesday. Across his 147.0 innings and 9-8 record so far, Roark has a 3.86 ERA with 141 Ks and 46 BBs.
Over on the Astros’ side, they’re going with Wade Miley as the Tuesday starter. Over 156.0 innings and a 13-4 record, Miley has a 3.35 ERA with 134 Ks and 55 walks.
The A’s are 6-2 in their last eight in game two of a series and 21-8 in their last 29 Tuesday games. The under is 16-5-1 in Oakland’s last 22 in game two of a series and 5-2 in their last seven Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, the Astros are 4-0 in Miley’s last four home starts and 59-29 in their last 88 in game two of a series. Houston is 27-10 in their last 37 Tuesday games and 21-7 in Miley’s last 28 starts.
Roark has been on a pretty good run over his last six games. Four of those were quality starts, and he only gave up more than two earned once (four) across a 3-1 record.
Then there’s Miley, who is coming off a bad start against the Mariners (five earned) and has been a tad shaky. This doesn’t look like a bad spot to try out the A’s.
