The Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies will meet up on the MLB diamond Tuesday.
In the Monday opener of this set, the Braves scored two runs in the first, two more in the second and three in the seventh while cruising to a 7-2 victory.
For Tuesday’s start the Braves will send out Max Fried. In his 149.1 innings and 16-4 mark so far, Fried has a 3.86 ERA with 159 Ks and 42 BBs.
Over on the Phillies’ side, they’re going with Jason Vargas to start Tuesday. This year over 132.2 innings and a 6-7 record Vargas has a 4.27 ERA with 104 Ks and 54 BBs.
The Braves are 5-1 in their last six Tuesday games and 4-0 in Fried’s last four starts. Atlanta is 9-1 in Fried’s last 10 starts with four days’ rest and 21-6 in his last 27 starts.
Meanwhile, the Phillies are 11-2 in their last 13 Tuesday games and 2-5 in Vargas’ last seven starts. Philly is 0-4 in Vargas’ last four starts with four days’ rest and the under is 4-0 in their last four Tuesday games.
Over his last two starts, Fried has three earned runs over a combined 13.0 innings on four hits, and he’s won both decisions. As for Vargas, he’s had a couple of stumbles lately but did put up a good start in Cincinnati his last time up.
Still, I’m going to stick with Fried and the Braves here.
