The Houston Astros and the Kansas City Royals will meet up on the MLB circuit Saturday.
In the Friday opener of this set, Houston posted a quick run in the first inning, and the Royals tied it up in the bottom of the eighth. The Astros responded on three runs in the ninth and held on for a 4-1 win.
On Saturday, the Astros will send out Zack Greinke in the start. Over his 189.1 innings and 15-5 mark this year, Greinke has a 3.14 ERA with 167 Ks and 29 BBs.
Over on the Royals’ side, they’re going with Mike Montgomery on Saturday. Across 77.1 innings and a 3-8 record so far, Montgomery has a 4.77 ERA with 61 Ks and 25 BBs.
The Astros are 37-14 in their last 51 Saturday games and 5-2 in Greinke’s last seven starts. Houston is 5-2 in Greinke’s last seven starts on grass and the over is 3-1-1 in their last five in game two of a series.
Meanwhile, the Royals are 4-0 in their last four in game two of a series and 5-14 in their last 19 Saturday games. KC is 3-7 in Montgomery’s last 10 starts and 3-7 in his last 10 on grass.
Greinke had a couple of bad outings earlier this month, with nine earned in 11.2 innings on 14 hits. He came back with zero earned on two hits in 6.0 innings his last time up versus Oakland, though.
As for Montgomery, he’s 0-3 in his last four starts and has been pretty erratic. I can’t find a lot of reasons not to take the Astros in this one, despite the thick line.
