Philadelphia Phillies vs. Boston Red Sox – 9/15/19 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2019-09-15 12:05:00 EDT

The Boston Red Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies will match up on the MLB diamond Sunday.

In the first installment of this two-game set on Saturday, neither team could hit the scoreboard until the seventh inning, where they traded runs on a 1-1 tie. Boston broke through with one more run in the ninth to eke through on a 2-1 win.

For Sunday’s game, the Red Sox will send out Rick Porcello. In his 157.1 innings and 12-12 mark so far, Porcello has a 5.83 ERA with 123 Ks and 44 BBs.

Over on the Phillies’ side, they’re going with Vince Velasquez in the start Sunday. Across 103.2 innings and a 6-7 mark this year, Velasquez has a 4.95 ERA with 113 Ks and 41 BBs.

The Red Sox are 2-7 in their last nine Sunday games and 4-0 in Porcello’s last four road starts. Boston is 7-1 in Porcello’s last eight starts versus the NL East and 16-5 in his last 21 interleague starts.

Meanwhile, the Phillies are 5-2 in their last seven in game two of a series and 4-1 in Velasquez’s last five starts. Philly is 9-3 in Velasquez’s last 12 home starts and 5-2 in his last seven with six days’ rest.

Porcello has had a couple of rough outings lately. In his last pair, he’s given up 12 earned in 8.0 innings on 15 hits. Porcello has also lost five of his last eight starts.

As for Velasquez, he’s given up five earned over his last 7.1 innings over two starts but hasn’t recorded a decision. I’m not necessarily thrilled about it but I’m going to stay on the Phillies here.
