The Washington Nationals and the St. Louis Cardinals will continue their MLB series on Tuesday.
In the Monday opener of this series, the Cardinals took a 4-2 win with two in the first inning and two more in the seventh.
For Tuesday’s game, the Nationals will send out Patrick Corbin to start. Over 185.2 innings and a 12-7 record this year, Corbin has a 3.20 ERA with 213 Ks.
Over on on the Cardinals’ side, they’re going with Miles Mikolas in the start Tuesday. Across 170.1 innings and a 9-13 mark, Mikolas has a 4.28 ERA with 136 Ks and 30 BBs.
The Nationals are 5-2 in their last seven in game two of a series and 5-1 in Corbin’s last six starts with four days’ rest. Washington is 11-5 in Corbin’s last 16 starts and 11-5 in his last 16 on grass.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 4-1 in their last five Tuesday games and 9-2 in their last 11 in game two of a series. St. Louis is 4-1 in Mikolas’ last five starts and 4-1 in his last five home starts.
Corbin has been pitching very well over his last seven outings. In that span he’s got six quality starts but is a relatively tepid 3-2 record-wise. Still, he’s won two of his last three.
As for Mikolas, he’s given up no more than three runs over any of his last four games and is 2-0 during that time. Still, if Corbin comes out strong here I have to lean toward the Nationals.
