The Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves will match up on the MLB diamond Thursday to finish their series.
In the Tuesday opener of this set, the Phillies posted a 5-4 victory. On Wednesday, Philly kept it going with a 4-1 win.
For the Thursday game, the Phillies will send out Aaron Nola in the start. Across 191.2 innings and a 12-5 mark so far, Nola has a 3.62 ERA with 216 Ks and 74 BBs.
Over on the Braves’ side, they’re going with Mike Soroka in the Thursday start. Over 164.2 innings and a 12-4 record, Soroka has a 2.57 ERA with 130 Ks and 39 BBs.
The Phillies are 7-2 in Nola’s last nine Thursday starts and 1-4 in his last five versus the NL East. Philly is 0-5 in Nola’s last five starts and 0-5 in his last five on grass.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 35-16 in their last 51 in game three of a series and 13-3 in Soroka’s last 16 starts versus the NL East. Atlanta is 8-3 in Soroka’s last 11 home starts and 21-9 in his last 30 starts.
Nola had a bit of a rocky appearance the last time he faced the Braves, with four earned in 6.0 innings. He’s 0-2 in his last five starts but does have three quality outings in there.
As for Soroka, he’s got a couple of somewhat “blah” outings over his last three, but did post a quality start his last time up. This should be a great game and I’m staying away, but I’m leaning toward the Braves here.
