The Seattle Mariners and the Baltimore Orioles will meet up on the MLB diamond Friday to kick off their series.
The Mariners are coming out of a set versus the Pirates. Seattle took the first two games of that series 6-0 and 4-1, then in the Thursday game the Mariners won in 11 innings 6-5.
For Friday’s game, the Mariners will send out Felix Hernandez in the start. Across his 61.1 innings and 1-6 record this year, Hernandez has a 6.31 ERA with 51 Ks and 19 BBs.
Over on the Orioles’ side, they just finished against the Blue Jays. Baltimore fell in the first two of that set 8-5 and 11-10, and on Thursday the Orioles fell 8-4.
The Orioles will send out Richard Bleier on Friday. Bleier is 3-0 with a 5.63 ERA and 24 Ks this year.
The Mariners are 1-6 in their last seven Friday games and 4-1 in Hernandez’s last five Friday starts. Seattle is 1-5 in Hernandez’s last six road starts and 0-5 in his last five versus the AL East.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are 19-46 in their last 65 Friday games and 18-64 in their last 82 in game one of a series. The under is 7-3 in Baltimore’s last 10 in game one of a series.
Hernandez had a bad outing in Houston, and another in Chicago (nine combined earned in 5.0 innings; both losses) but he had a good outing his last time up. In that one, Hernandez put up 7.0 innings with one earned on five hits.
I like Hernandez to follow that up with another good performance so I’m going Mariners here.
