The Cleveland Indians and the Chicago White Sox will meet up on the MLB diamond again on Wednesday.
In the Tuesday opener of this set, the Indians jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three innings, then added three more in the fifth to cruise to an 11-0 blowout win.
For Wednesday’s start, the Indians will send out Shane Bieber. Over 208.2 innings and a 15-7 mark this year, Bieber has a 3.23 ERA with 252 Ks and 39 BBs.
Over on the White Sox’ side, they’re going with Ross Detwiler in the Wednesday start. This year over 59.1 innings and a 2-5 mark, Detwiler has a 6.98 ERA with 42 Ks and 26 BBs.
The Indians are 42-14 in their last 56 Wednesday games and 2-5 in their last seven in game two of a series. Cleveland is 4-0 in Bieber’s last four starts and 7-1 in his last eight Wednesday starts.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 1-4 in their last five in game two of a series and 2-6 in Detwiler’s last eight starts. Chicago is 2-6 in Detwiler’s last eight starts on grass and 0-4 in his last four versus the AL Central.
Outside of an “off” no-decision game against the Twins (four earned; 11 hits; 5.2 innings), Bieber has been on quite a roll lately. He posted a quality start with two earned in 7.1 innings his last time up and is 3-0 in his last four games.
Considering Detwiler has logged 17 earned over his last four appearances, I can’t find too many reasons not to take Cleveland here.
