The Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates will continue their MLB series on Wednesday.
In the Tuesday opener of this set, we had a pretty quiet game until the bottom of the seventh, when Pittsburgh railed in seven runs. The Pirates would add two more scores in a 9-2 victory.
For Wednesday’s game, the Cubs will go with Jon Lester in the start. Across his 165.2 innings and 13-10 mark so far, Lester has a 4.51 ERA with 161 Ks and 52 BBs.
Over on the Pirates’ side, they’re sending out Dario Agrazal in the Wednesday game. Across 67.1 innings and a 4-5 record, Agrazal has a 5.08 ERA with 36 Ks and 18 BBs.
The Cubs are 15-6 in their last 21 Wednesday games and 1-4 in their last five in game two of a series. Chicago is 5-0 in Lester’s last five starts with six days’ rest and 5-2 in his last seven Wednesday starts.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 2-8 in their last 10 Wednesday games and 0-5 in the last five in game two of a series. Pitt is 1-4 in Agrazal’s last five home starts and 4-1 in his last five in game two of a series.
Lester had a couple of choppy outings earlier this month, with 12 earned over a 10.1 inning span, but he looked solid his last time up with one earned in 5.0 innings.
As for Agrazal, he’s been sketchy over his last three with 11 earned in 13.1 innings of work. I’m not super pumped about the Cubs here but I feel like they’re the safer play.
