The Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates will meet up on the MLB circuit Thursday.
In the Tuesday opener, the Pirates banged out a 9-2 win. On Wednesday in game two, the Pirates posted two runs in the bottom of the eighth to break a tie and end up with a 4-2 victory.
For the Thursday game, the Cubs will send out Jose Quintana for the start. Across his 166.0 innings and 13-8 mark so far, Quintana has a 4.55 ERA with 148 Ks and 46 BBs.
Over on the Pirates’ side, they’re going with Joe Musgrove to start Thursday. Over 164.1 innings and a 10-12 mark, Musgrove has a 4.49 ERA with 149 Ks and 37 walks.
The Cubs are 58-24 in their last 83 Thursday games and 1-5 in their last six in game three of a series. Chicago is 11-4 in Quintana’s last 15 starts and 5-2 in his last seven road starts.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 8-20 in their last 28 Thursday games and 7-19 in their last 26 in game three of a series. Pitt is 1-4 in Musgrove’s last five home starts and 2-7 in his last nine Thursday starts.
Quintana has had some rough outings lately. Over his last four games, he’s coughed up 18 earned urns in the span of 13.2 innings of work. Weird thing is he’s 1-0 in that stretch.
As for Musgrove, he’s 2-0 over his last three with five earned in 16.0 innings. I feel a little more comfortable taking the Pirates in the finale here.
