The New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers will match up on the MLB diamond Friday.
The Yankees are coming off a pair of games against the Rays. New York lost both of those, 2-1 Tuesday in a walk-off and 4-0 on Wednesday.
On Friday, New York will send out James Paxton to start. Over 149.2 innings and a 15-6 record, Paxton has a 3.73 ERA with 185 Ks and 55 BBs.
Over on the Rangers’ side, they just finished against the Red Sox. Texas fell 12-10 Tuesday and 10-3 Wednesday, then in the finale Thursday the Rangers banged out a 7-5 win.
For Friday’s game, the Rangers will send out Joe Palumbo to start. Over 13.2 innings and an 0-2 mark Palumbo has a 9.22 ERA with 14 Ks and seven walks.
The Yankees are 1-7 in their last eight in game one of a series and 0-4 in their last four Friday games. New York is 5-1 in Paxton’s last six Friday starts and 10-1 in his last 11 starts.
Meanwhile, the Rangers are 0-5 in their last five in game one of a series and 2-5 in the last seven Friday games. The under is 8-2 in Texas’ last 10 in game one of a series and 16-6-1 in their last 23 Friday games.
Paxton is pretty much the Yankees ace right now, and his recent numbers are pretty darn great. Over his last 10 games (each of which he’s won), he’s got seven quality starts and has given up more than two earned just twice (three and four earned, back in August).
I don’t expect Paxton to be out here for long, but with some of the Yankees bats coming back I’m going to stick with New York in this one.
