The Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox meet in game two of their three game AL East division set in MLB action from Fenway Park on Saturday.
The Baltimore Orioles will look to build on a series-opening 4-1 win over Boston in game one on Friday. Renato Nunez went 2 for 5 with a home run and all four Baltimore RBIs. Austin Hays and DJ Stewart each had a double with Hays going 2 for 4 at the dish. Hanser Alberto added a base knock of his own to round out Baltimore’s offense as a team as the Orioles had just six hits as a team in the win. Asher Wojciechowski got the win to improve to 4-8 on the year after thiteming six shutout innings, giving up just four hits while striking out six. John Means will start game two and is 11-11 with a 3.54 ERA and 116 strikeouts this season. In his career, Means is 2-1 with a 3.76 ERA and 14 strikeouts against Boston.
The Boston Red Sox will look to rebound after their loss in game one on Friday. Xander Bogaerts went 2 for 4 with a double and Boston’s lone RBI in the loss. Rafael Devers and Jackie Bradley Jr. each had a double while Mookie Betts and Brock Holt each had a base hit as the Red Sox had just six hits as a team in the losing effort. Nathan Eovaldi took the loss, falling to 2-1 on the year after allowing three runs on three hits while walking four and striking out three over five innings of work. Jhoulys Chacin will start game two and is 3-11 with a 5.81 ERA and 98 strikeouts this season. This will be Chacin’s second career start against Baltimore.
Baltimore is 2-8 in Means’ last 10 road starts and 14-41 in their last 55 division games while the over is 6-1 in Means’ last 7 division starts. Boston is 1-6 in their last 7 home games and 2-9 in their last 11 division games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games against a left-handed starter. Baltimore is 16-35 in the last 51 meetings between these two teams and 5-13 in the last 18 meetings between these two teams in Boston.
I get Boston being favored because they’re at home, but in reality this is still a series between two teams with nothing but pride to play for. Boston probably has the better lineup, but Chacin hasn’t been a world-beater and Boston hasn’t been playing that well lately while Means has been responsible for more than 20% of Baltimore’s wins this season. I think this is as good as a time as any to take a shot with Baltimore and the plus money.
