The Miami Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies will meet up on the MLB diamond Saturday.
In the Friday opener of this set, the Phillies eked out a 5-4 win in 15 innings.
For the Saturday game, the Marlins will send out Caleb Smith in the start. Across his 150.1 innings and 10-10 mark so far, Smith has a 4.31 ERA with 167 Ks and 56 BBs.
Over on the Phillies’ side, they’re going with Zach Eflin on Saturday. Over 155.2 innings and a 9-13 record, Eflin has a 4.16 ERA with 123 Ks and 46 BBs.
The Marlins are 18-41 in their last 59 in game two of a series and 1-5 in their last six Saturday games. Miami is 2-5 in Smith’s last seven starts and 2-5 in his last seven on grass.
Meanwhile, the Phillies are 4-10 in their last 14 Saturday games and 5-2 in their last seven in game two of a series. Philly is 3-9 in Eflin’s last 12 starts and 1-4 in his last five home starts.
Smith is 2-1 over his last three games, though during that span he’s given up 11 earned runs over 16.2 innings of work on 21 hits.
As for Eflin, he coughed up five earned in 5.0 innings in Washington his last time up. I’m not thrilled about either pitcher right now, but Eflin probably has a better shot at a nice outing. I’m going Phillies.
