Rakuten Monkeys (-204) - Chinatrust Brothers (+149)
The Rakuten Monkeys (9-3) and the Chinatrust Brothers (6-7) will meet on Saturday, May 2nd, for a 1st Stage Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) game. This will be the 2nd of a three-game set between these two clubs.
The first game of the series was a classic battle of offenses, as the Chinatrust Brothers were able to take down the Monkeys, 10-8 in 12 innings. The game was exciting to watch from start to finish, especially in the latter half. A five-run ninth inning gave the Monkeys a two-run lead, but the Brothers were able to nod the score at 8 in the bottom of the ninth to bring it to extras. A two-run 12th was enough for the Brothers to hold on and win their most important victory of the season thus far. The line in this game is similar to what it was in Friday's game, as the league's best Rakuten Monkeys are 2/1 favorites yet again.
The Brothers' problem of allowing runs continued on Friday, as they have now allowed a whopping 28 runs in their last three games as a team, which is certainly not good enough to consistently win ball games. Although the bats were alive in Game one of this series, the Brothers will need to control the game on the mound to have a real chance in games two and three of this set.
Rakuten is still a league-best six games above .500, with the closest team behind them being the 7-7 Uni Lions. With a 3.0 game lead of first place, the Monkeys will look to bounce back from a disappointing loss.
When it comes down to this matchup, I would not bet on the Monkeys losing back-to-back games. I think game one's result was more of a fluke, and I see the Monkeys bouncing back in a big way on Saturday. The Win Line does not provide much value, so I will take the Rakuten Monkeys on the run line, -1.5 at +115 odds. To me, this is too much value to pass up on with the much better team overall, and a team that is looking for vengeance after a heartbreaking loss.
