The Uni Lions (10-15) and the Chinatrust Brothers (11-13) will meet on Sunday, May 17th for a 1st Stage regular-season matchup in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). Chinatrust was victorious in game two of this series, who will win the rubber match?
The highly-competitive season series between the Uni Lions and Chinatrust Brothers added its newest episode on Saturday, and this time the Brothers were the winners by the score of 9-2. Chinatrust now takes the season-series lead at 6-5 over the Lions. The win for Chinatrust brings the team to only two games under .500 at 11-13, as they remain in second place in the CPBL standings. Chinatrust took a 3-0 lead in the third innings, followed by two more runs in the fourth to bring the score to 5-1 at the end of four. Chinatrust’s three-run eighth inning broke the game open.
Uni would have certainly loved to clinch a series win over Chinatrust in game two, but they were outplayed from the get-go on Saturday. Uni really needs to regroup and aim for the series win on Sunday, as their hole is only getting bigger when it comes to their current record in the CPBL standings. Uni is currently 0.5 game behind the Fubon Guardians for third place in the CPBL, 1.5 games behind Chinatrust for second, and 8.0 games behind Rakuten at the top of the standings.
This game features yet another tight betting line, as Chinatrust has opened as the favorite with a modest -149 betting line. The underdog Uni Lions have a +110 price themselves, which is not too shabby. The favorite has lost both games of this series, as Uni and Chinatrust took turns completing minor upsets over the other on Friday and Saturday. I expect this game to be another hard-fought battle, but in the end, I do see the Chinatrust Brothers coming out victorious. This team is plainly deeper than Uni in all facets of the game, and I do not see themselves letting a series win slip away from them. Uni has shown signs of excellence, but they have also shown the total opposite many times, so I am going to stick to the safer bet in Chinatrust and lay the -149 price.
