Chinatrust Brothers (-175) Fubon Guardians (+127)
The Chinatrust Brothers (12-13) and the Fubon Guardians (10-13) will meet on Sunday, May 24th for a 1st Stage regular-season matchup in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). Will the rain ever stop in Taiwan?
This is not a typo, the CPBL has been rained out on five consecutive days. The last ball-game was played on Sunday, as Monday is the league's weekly 'day off'. I had to research this a bit, as I felt we were on the cusp of a record. Supposedly in 1909, the Philadelphia Phillies went through 10, yes 10 consecutive rain-outs! The CPBL has a lot of work to do in order to beat that record, but they are certainly on pace.
Chinatrust, as you have probably heard me say for the fourth straight day, defeated the Uni Lions 19-9 in their last game on Sunday. Any team that wins a game in that kind of fashion only wants to get right back on the field ASAP, but unfortunately for the Brothers, Mother Nature is not on their side.
Fubon also was victorious in their last game on Sunday, as they took down the Rakuten Monkeys 9-7. This game carries a lot of weight for both teams, as even though their three-game set has now minimized to a one-game showdown, there is still a ton on the line. A win for Fubon moves them even with Chinatrust in the CPBL standings. A win for Chinatrust inversely gives them a 2.0 game lead over Fubon, which gives the Brothers some much-needed breathing room. A win for Chinatrust also gets their record back to .500 at 13-13, something they may not have thought was possible a few weeks ago.
The betting line in this one shows the Chinatrust Brothers are the favorites with a -175 price on the Win-Line. Fubon opens as the underdogs at +127. The total is at 10.5, which is rather low for a CPBL game. We should expect a more pitcher-focuses ball game, especially since both teams will have their pitching staff at 100% after the long break. With so many days off, I think both teams start out slow in this one. With that being said, I will take the under 10.5 runs.
