The Uni Lions (11-16) and the Chinatrust Brothers (12-14) will meet on Wednesday, May 27th for a 1st Stage regular-season matchup in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). These two teams finish up a two-game set after game one was postponed due to weather.
Welp! I may have accidentally jinxed it, unfortunately. In yesterday’s Uni Lions vs Chinatrust Brothers preview, I had mentioned how we finally passed the miserable weather in Taiwan and we can now focus on baseball. Of course, Tuesday’s game gets rained out in the third inning. Nonetheless, we are ready for Wednesday’s game, as hopefully, Mother Nature will be nice to us on Hump Day.
Chinatrust was winning Tuesday’s game 1-0 in the third inning with three hits and one error as a team. Uni only had one hit as a team through their two innings of offense.
Wednesday’s game remains big for both clubs, as Uni is trying to claw their way back to the middle of the CPBL standings. The Lions are only 1.5 games behind both Chinatrust and Fubon for a tie of second place, so a win here would be huge. Uni has to take on Rakuten after this game, which is not all that bad considering the Lions have had some solid success against Rakuten so far this season, winning four games against the league-leading Monkeys.
Chinatrust will play Fubon after this game, so they cannot afford to drop this game against the last-place Lions. The season series between the Brothers and Lions has proven to be quite the show so far this season, with both teams winning different games in style. An example would be the Brothers 19-9 dismantling victory over Uni last Sunday, or Uni’s 12-6 win over Chinatrust on April 30th.
The betting line in this one displays the Chinatrust Brothers as the big favorites at -204 odds on the Win Line. Uni opens as the underdog in this matchup with a +150 price. I expect this game to be a battle from both teams that are in need of a big win. I think the +150 price with Uni is too enticing to pass up, as I think these Lions are on their way back in the CPBL standings. I will take the underdog Uni Lions in this one.
