The Chinatrust Brothers (14-15) and the Rakuten Monkeys (18-9) will meet on Tuesday, June 2nd for a 1st Stage regular-season matchup in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). This will be game one of a two-game set between first and second place in the CPBL standings.
Chinatrust had finally gotten back to .500 at 14-14, but unfortunately for the Brothers, they lost to Fubon 4-2 on Sunday to move their record back to one game under. Chinatrust has only scored six runs in their last two games, which is not like them at all. Chinatrust lives and dies by its offense, so when the runs do not come, the losses follow. Despite earning seven base hits, Chinatrust was only able to get a run across in the 6th and 9th innings in the loss to Fubon, as the Brothers left many runners on base throughout the game.
Rakuten is coming off a 9-8 shootout win over the Uni Lions on Sunday. This was a game that went back and forth the entire time, as Rakuten took an early 6-0 lead that was evaporated after a five-run Uni Lions 3rd inning. Rakuten would go on to earn 21 base hits, while Uni had only 13, yet the game was still only decided by a single run. Rakuten has to be happy that they were able to escape from Uni with a series win, as Uni has given Rakuten some serious scares this entire season.
The betting line in this game opens with Rakuten being the favorites at a -156 price on the Win-Line. Chinatrust will be the underdogs with a +116 price on the Win-Line respectively. The total in this game is set at 13.5 runs, with both the over and under set at -110 odds. The Run-Line has Rakuten giving -1.5 runs at +100 odds, while Chinatrust is +1.5 at -130.
I think Rakuten’s offensive performance against Uni is just the start of a bounce-back tour for the Monkeys in the CPBL. 9 runs on 21 hits against Uni tells me that Rakuten is still not playing at its highest potential, so I will take Rakuten -1.5 at +100, as I expect the Monkeys to blow it open in this game.
