The Rakuten Monkeys (19-12) and the Uni Lions (13-23) will meet on Tuesday, June 9th for a 1st Stage regular-season matchup in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). This will be another battle between first and last place in the CPBL standings.
The Rakuten Monkeys game against the Fubon Guardians scheduled for Sunday was postponed due to poor weather. Although Rakuten will be content with the extra day off, the Monkeys are most likely not happy that Chinatrust was able to play and defeat the Uni Lions on Sunday. The win for Chinatrust moves them only 1.5 games behind the Rakuten Monkeys for first place in the CPBL standings. Rakuten had as big a lead as 8.0 games, but that has obviously evaporated. Rakuten’s last game overall was against Fubon on Saturday. The Monkeys lost that game by a score of 9-6.
The Chinatrust Brothers were able to defeat the Uni Lions by the final score of 9-8 on Sunday. Uni has now moved to 10 games under .500 at 13-23, as its season in the 1st Stage moves closer and closer to over each loss. Uni has just not been to hold a lead in recent games. I have always said that Uni takes the sourest losses, as many times the Lions of Uni are ahead by a few runs at some point in the game, only to lose it in the end. Uni will look to play the role of spoiler against Rakuten in this series, which has actually been something they are quite good at. Uni leads the league in wins against Rakuten so far this season.
The betting line in this game opens with the Rakuten Monkeys as the big favorites with a -233 price on the Win-Line. The Uni Lions are the major underdogs with a +185 price on the Win-Line. The total in this game is set at 13.5 runs with both the over and under set at -110 odds.
I am going to take the over in this game, as taking Rakuten carries no value, especially when Uni has proven time and time again that they are able to defeat Rakuten. I also cannot take Uni, as they are not reliable enough even at +185 odds. The over makes sense, as Uni has been pitching very poorly as of late, with many defensive errors as well. I expect Rakuten to get to double-digits in the run column, while Uni scores around four or five at least.
