The Rakuten Monkeys (24-17) and the Fubon Guardians (17-24) will meet on Tuesday, June 23rd for a 1st Stage regular-season matchup in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL).
The Rakuten Monkeys now have sole possession of first place in the CPBL after its series win over the Chinatrust Brothers. Rakuten and Chinatrust have been flip-flopping the first place spot in the league for weeks now, but Rakuten starts the week in first alone. Rakuten's last game was an 8-1 win over Chinatrust in which Rakuten dominated the Brothers the entire game. The only thing that went wrong for Rakuten was in the field, as the Monkeys made a historic five errors in the field for some reason.
Fubon lost to the Uni Lions on Sunday by the final score of 13-6. With that loss, Fubon now moves to last place in the CPBL and Uni moves up to third place. Fubon's pitching staff was blown up in this series, as the Uni Lions scored 31 runs in the three games they played. A win for Fubon in this game would bring them back to even with Uni in the standings, which is all Fubon can hope for at this point.
The betting line in this game caught me very much off guard, as the Fubon Guardians who have not played good baseball at all lately open as the sizable favorites with a -135 price on the Win-Line. The Rakuten Monkeys are the underdogs with a +105 price on the Win-Line respectively. The total in this game is set at 12.5 runs with both the over and the under set at -110 odds each.
My biggest question has to be why Fubon is the favorites in this matchup? We have seen some crazy betting lines in this league, but when the starting pitchers are announced an hour before the start of the game, there has to be something else that gives Fubon the edge in this one. Because of that, I am staying away from the sides in this game and I will attack the total. I am going to take the under in this matchup because I think if Fubon wins this game it is going to be because they shutdown Rakuten's lethal offense.
