The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Dodgers meet in an MLB exhibition game on Monday night.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will try to rebound from a 9-2 loss to the Dodgers in their last matchup on Sunday. Ketel Marte had a solo home run while Stephen Vogt added an RBI to finish off Arizona’s scoring as a team in the loss. Carson Kelly and Nick Ahmed each had a base hit as well as the D-Backs mustered up just four hits as a team in the losing effort. Taylor Widener ended up with the loss, falling to 0-1 after allowing six runs on five hits while striking out three over four innings of work. Taylor Clarke will start this matchup and is 1-1 with a 13.50 ERA and 13 strikeouts up to this point in the preseason.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will try to build on their victory over the D-Backs on Sunday. Cody Bellinger had a grand slam while going 3 for 5 with five RBIs while Corey Seager had a double and an RBI and Corey Taylor, Justin Turner and Rocky Gale each had an RBI as well in the win. Mookie Betts and Max Muncy each had two hits with a double while Joc Pederson and Edwin Rios each had a base hit as well in the winning effort to cap off the Dodger offense. Mitchell White got the win to improve to 2-0 after allowing one run on one hit with a pair of strikeouts over five innings of work. Julio Urias is expected to get the start here to make his first preseason appearance of 2020.
The D-Backs could be a team to watch out for if a lot of things go right in this shortened season and it starts with the pitching. As far as this game goes, while I don’t expect them to go the whole game, I don’t envision Taylor Clarke being the pitcher to stifle the Dodgers’ lineup, even in spring training/summer camp as Clarke’s allowed 15 earned runs in 10 innings up to this point. I see more of what we saw on Sunday in this matchup, so I’ll side with the Dodgers on the run line in this one.
