The Minnesota Twins and Chicago Cubs meet Wednesday night in MLB exhibition action at Wrigley Field.
The Minnesota Twins were a surprise team last season, as they won the AL Central with 101 victories. The Twins had a respectable pitching staff, but it was an offense that finished second in batting average, second in OPS and first in home runs that led the charge. The Twins batting lineup pretty much stays the same and you could actually argue it got better with the addition of Josh Donaldson. The Twins starting rotation will feature three new faces in Kenta Maeda, Homer Bailey and Rich Hill, and it will be interesting to see if that’s an upgrade from what they had a season ago. The Minnesota Twins are a team to keep a close eye on this season. Homer Bailey takes the mound tonight for the Minnesota Twins.
The Chicago Cubs have lost both of their preseason games against the Chicago White Sox, and they were outscored 6-12 during that stretch. In their last effort, Javier Báez and Kyle Schwarber combined for two hits and two RBI while Yu Darvish allowed five runs and seven hits in four innings. The Chicago Cubs need to find some more consistent offense if they’re going to get this train going and feel better with the regular season right around the corner. Jon Lester takes the mound tonight for the Chicago Cubs.
Neither Bailey or Lester are pitchers I'm running to the window to bet, as they both had ERAs well over four last season and can give up the long ball, as they allowed a combined 47 homers last year. With that said, Lester does a better job of missing bats and while I don't think the Cubs have that same swagger they had when they were casing a title, they are a better than what they showed in previous exhibition games. With such a short regular season that makes every game important, the Chicago Cubs can't afford to lose three straight preseason games. The Cubs need a win to feel good entering the season on Friday.
I'll lay the cheap price with the Chicago Cubs.
