The KIA Tigers and Samsung Lions meet Friday morning in South Korea KBO baseball action at the Gwangju Kia Champions Field.
The KIA Tigers look for a win after splitting their last eight games. The KIA Tigers pitching staff has allowed four or less runs in 19 of their last 31 games. In their last effort, Park Chan-ho and Na Joo-hwan combined for three hits and two RBI while Yang Hyun-jong allowed one run and three hits in five innings of work. The KIA Tigers have won 21 of their last 34 games overall. Aaron Brooks gets the ball tonight for the KIA Tigers.
The Samsung Lions need a victory here after losing seven of their last 11 games. The Samsung Lions have allowed five or less runs in 18 of their last 31 games. In their latest effort, Kim Sang-su and Lee Sung-gyu combined for three hits and five RBI while Baek Jung-hyun allowed five runs and nine hits in 5.1 innings of work. The Samsung Lions have won 22 of their last 37 games overall. Choi Chae-heung gets the ball tonight for the Samsung Lions.
The Samsung Lions and KIA Tigers have split their last 10 meetings down the middle, but the Lions have won three of the last four meetings. Four of the last eight meetings between the Tigers and Lions have produced double-digit run totals.
Both of these teams have had great pitching success over the last three weeks and this is another solid pitching matchup. However, it's the Samsung Lions who have had trouble finishing games despite the good pitching, and it's the KIA Tigers who have the starting pitching edge in this matchup. Chae-heung has a 3.88 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 60.1 innings while Brooks has a 2.49 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 83 innings. Chae-heung has given up nine earned runs and 16 hits in his last 10.2 innings, while Brooks has allowed three or less earned runs in each of his last 10 starts.
This could be the most fun game on Friday's card, but the KIA Tigers should come away with the victory, and I'll lay the RL for added value.
