The Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox meet in MLB action from Fenway Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Baltimore Orioles will look to win the series after pulling off a 7-2 win over the BoSox on Saturday. Anthony Santander and Renato Nunez each had a double and two RBIs while Hanser Alberto had a double and an RBI as well, going 3 for 5 at the dish. Jose Iglesias went 2 for 5 with an RBI while Austin Hays went 2 for 5 at the dish and Pat Valaika chipped in a base hit as well to round out Baltimore’s offense as a team in the winning effort. Alex Cobb got the win to improve to 1-0 after allowing one run on four hits while striking out six over 5.1 innings of work. Wade LeBlanc will make his debut for the Orioles here and was 6-7 with a 5.71 ERA and 92 strikeouts last season. In his career, LeBlanc is 2-0 with a 5.40 ERA and 18 strikeouts against Boston.
The Boston Red Sox will try to rebound and win the set after dropping game two on Saturday. Mitch Moreland had a solo home run while Kevin Plawecki had an RBI as well in the losing effort for Boston. Alex Verdugo went 3 for 4 at the dish while J.D. Martinez and Jackie Bradley Jr. each had a pair of hits to cap off Boston’s offense as a team in the loss. Martin Perez took the loss, falling to 0-1 after allowing four runs on six hits while striking out a pair over five innings of work in defeat. Ryan Weber is expected to start here and was 2-4 with a 5.09 ERA and 29 strikeouts last season. This will be Weber’s first career start against Baltimore.
Baltimore is 50-128 in their last 178 road games and 105-243 in their last 348 games overall while the over is 7-3 in their last 10 division games. Boston is 3-7 in their last 10 home games and 4-10 in their last 14 division games while the over is 7-0 in their last 7 games against a left-handed starter. Baltimore is 16-36 in the last 52 meetings between these two teams and 6-15 in the last 21 meetings between these two teams in Boston.
I’m not really looking to back either of these teams as Wade LeBlanc wasn’t anything special last season and Baltimore isn’t going to consistently string positive results together often this season while Boston has a slightly better offense, but Weber gave up ten runs in 11.1 innings in the starter role last season. Instead of trying to back a side, I’m going to try for the over here. I think both pitchers get touched up here and this game sees double-digit runs when all is said and done so give me the over.
