The KIA Tigers and Samsung Lions meet Sunday morning in South Korea KBO baseball action at the Gwangju Kia Champions Field.
The KIA Tigers look for a win after splitting their last eight games. The KIA Tigers pitching staff has allowed four or less runs in 20 of their last 32 games. In their last effort, Choi Hyung-woo and Na Joo-hwan combined for three hits and four RBI while Aaron Brooks allowed two runs and five hits in 5.2 innings of work. The KIA Tigers have won 22 of their last 35 games overall. Im Ki-young gets the ball tonight for the KIA Tigers.
The Samsung Lions need a victory here after losing eight of their last 12 games. The Samsung Lions have allowed five or less runs in 18 of their last 32 games. In their latest effort, Lee Won-seok and Lee Sung-gon combined for five hits and one RBI while Ben Lively allowed one run and four hits in six innings of work. The Samsung Lions have won 22 of their last 38 games overall. David Buchanan gets the ball tonight for the Samsung Lions.
The Samsung Lions and KIA Tigers have split their last 10 meetings down the middle, but the Lions have won three of the last five meetings. Five of the last nine meetings between the Tigers and Lions have produced double-digit run totals.
This is a solid pitching matchup and you can make a case for either side, but it's the KIA Tigers who have been dealing over the last month and have become far more trustworthy overall. Ki-young has a 3.57 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 58 innings and has allowed three or less earned runs in nine of his last 10 starts. Buchanan has a 3.36 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 85.2 innings, and he's allowed two earned runs and 13 hits in his last 15 innings. The under may be worth a look based on these numbers, but I'm giving the edge to the KIA Tigers anyway because of how consistent they've been on the mound long term.
Give me the KIA Tigers to close out this series with a victory.
