The Baltimore Orioles and the Miami Marlins meet in MLB action from Marlins Park on Monday.
The Baltimore Orioles will look to build off of their series win over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday with a 7-4 win in the rubber match. Anthony Santander and Rio Ruiz each had a two-run home run while Jose Iglesias went 4 for 5 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Chris Davis had a double and an RBI while Austin Hays also chipped in an RBI to finish off Baltimore’s scoring as a team in the win. Hanser Alberto went 2 for 4 at the dish while Renato Nunez added a base hit as well to finish off Baltimore’s offense as a team in the victory. Wade LeBlanc got the win to improve to 1-0 after allowing four runs on four hits while striking out four over 5.2 innings of work. Asher Wojciechowski will start the opener and was 4-8 with a 4.92 ERA and 80 strikeouts for Baltimore last season. This will be Wojciechowski’s first career start against Miami.
The Miami Marlins will try to build on an 11-6 win over Philadelphia to take the series on Sunday. Miguel Rojas went 3 for 4 with a three-run home run and a triple while Brian Anderson had a three-run home run. Magneuris Sierra went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs while Corey Dickerson and Jesus Aguilar each had solo homers to finish off Miami’s scoring as a team in the win. Isan Diaz also chipped in a pair of hits as well for the Fish in the winning effort. Robert Duggar gave up four runs on six hits while striking out a pair of 3.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Stephen Tarpley got the win to improve to 1-0 on the year in relief. Pablo Lopez will start game one and was 5-8 with a 5.09 ERA and 95 strikeouts last season.
Baltimore is 51-128 in their last 179 road games and 3-7 in their last 10 games against the NL East while the under is 3-1-1 in their last 5 interleague games. Miami is 11-5 in their last 16 games as a favorite and 16-41 in their last 57 games overall while the over is 12-3-1 in their lat 16 Monday games. Baltimore is 1-4 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams and 1-8 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams in Miami.
This game features two pitchers in Lopez and Wojciechowski who were batted around a fair bit last season and while I wouldn’t think much of an Orioles/Marlins matchup otherwise, the start these two teams had after the opening weekend makes it feel just a little bit different. The bats have been on for both teams so I’ll side with the over for this matchup.
