The Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates meet Monday in MLB action at PNC Park.
The Milwaukee Brewers look for a victory here after losing two of three to the Chicago Cubs. The Brewers offense was held to one or less runs in two of their first three games and is coming off a contest where they struck out eight times. The Brewers have been held to three or less runs in five of their last six games when you include last seasons postseason and regular season. Orlando Arcia leads the Brewers with four hits and one RBI while Lorenzo Cain and Justin Smoak have combined for six hits and two RBI. Adrian Houser gets the ball for the Brewers, and he was 6-7 with a 3.72 ERA and 117 strikeouts last season. Houser is 1-1 with a 9.00 ERA and 10 strikeouts in his career against the Pirates.
The Pittsburgh Pirates look for a bounce back series after losing two of three to the St. Louis Cardinals. The Pirates pitching staff finally showed up in Sunday victory, allowing just one run after giving up 14 runs in their first two games combined. The Pirates now make their home debut before going back on the road for five games. Colin Moran leads the Pirates with four hits and one RBI while Phillip Evans and Jose Osuna have combined for six hits and five RBI. Steven Brault gets the ball for the Pirates, and he was 4-6 with a 5.16 ERA and 100 strikeouts last season. Brault is 1-3 with a 3.94 ERA and 53 strikeouts in his career against the Brewers.
The Brewers are 12-4 in their last 16 games as a favorite, 14-3 in their last 17 vs. National League Central and 19-7 in their last 26 overall. The Pirates are 19-41 in their last 60 games as an underdog, 4-12 in their last 16 Monday games and 0-4 in their last 4 games on grass. The under is 4-1 in Brewers last 5 overall. The over is 18-7-1 in Pirates last 26 Monday games. The Brewers are 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Pittsburgh and 19-7 in the last 26 meetings.
The Milwaukee Brewers are a much better team than what they showed in their opening series, and I expect them to redeem themselves against a team they're supposed to beat on paper. The Pittsburgh Pirates still aren't a good baseball team and they showed that for majority of three games against the Cardinals. Brault is also a pitcher who got rocked all of last season with a 5.16 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and he's walking nearly five batters per nine innings his last two seasons.
The Milwaukee Brewers should win this game, and if they don't, they could be in trouble with this being such a short season.
