The San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants meet Tuesday in MLB action at Oracle Park.
The San Diego Padres look for another victory after taking two of three games from the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Padres pitching staff has allowed four or less runs in all four games and they hope to keep this up as they begin a six-game road trip with this contest. Fernando Tatis leads the Padres with five hits and three RBI while Trent Grisham and Eric Hosmer have combined for eight hits and eight RBI. The San Diego Padres didn’t list a starting pitcher at the time this article was published.
The San Francisco Giants make their home debut after splitting a four-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Giants pitching staff held an explosive Dodgers offense to five runs in their last two games. The Giants offense has to improve, however, as they’re averaging 2.50 runs through four games. Wilmer Flores leads the Giants with five hits and one RBI while Tyler Heineman and Mike Yastrzemski have combined for eight hits. Jeff Samardzija gets the ball, and he was 11-12 with a 3.52 ERA and 140 strikeouts last season. Samardzija is 9-4 with a 3.58 ERA and 116 strikeouts in his career against the Padres.
Will update with trends once they're released.
The San Diego Padres have been arguably the most impressive team through the first series, as their pitching staff has shown up in a big way and they took it to an Arizona Diamondbacks team that hoped to be a playoff contender this season even before the format was expanded. However, we'll learn more about the Padres as the sample size increases and I'm a bit hesitant about backing teams that have to travel this season because of everything guys have to go through just to play the game. There's now a mental part to the travel along with the physical. The San Francisco Giants were able to enjoy a day off yesterday and Samardzija is a veteran pitcher who has had career success against the Padres.
I'm not very high on the San Francisco Giants as a team overall this season, but I'd back them to win this game.
