The Tampa Bay Rays and the Atlanta Braves meet in an MLB matchup from Truist Park on Thursday night.
The Tampa Bay Rays will look to rebound from a 7-4 loss to the Braves on Wednesday night. Hunter Renfroe had two RBIs while Kevin Kiermaier added an RBI of his own. Willy Adames, Yoshi Tsutsugo, and Joey Wendle each added base hits as well with Wendle going 2 for 3 at the dish in the loss. Charlie Morton allowed two runs on six hits while striking out seven over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Oliver Drake took the loss to fall to 0-1 in relief this season. Ryan Yarbrough will start here and is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and one strikeout this season. This will be Yarbrough’s second career start against Atlanta.
The Atlanta Braves will look to pick up where they left off on Wednesday. Freddie Freeman led the way, going 4 for 5 with a home run, a double and three RBIs while Dansby Swanson had a double and an RBI while going 2 for 4 and Travis d’Arnaud had a double and an RBI as well. Ozzie Albies chipped in an RBI while Marcell Ozuna and Johan Camargo each doubled and Ronald Acuna Jr. added a base hit to finish off Atlanta’s offense as a team in victory. Mike Soroka allowed two runs on four hits while striking out five over 5.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Darren O’Day got the win to improve to 1-0 while Mark Melancon picked up his 1st save of the year. Max Fried will start this game and is 0-0 with a 3.60 ERA and 5 strikeouts this season. This will be Fried’s first career start against Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay is 1-5 in their last 6 road games and 3-7 in their last 10 games as a road underdog while the over is 10-1 in their last 11 interleague games. Atlanta is 3-7 in their last 10 games against the AL East and 7-3 in their last 10 interleague games while the over is 18-7-1 in their last 26 interleague games against a team with a winning record.
The plus money is tempting with Tampa Bay as the Rays are still a really good team with a solid pitching staff. However, the Braves have woken up after their slow start and now get Fried on the mound, who has a career ERA that’s a full run lower at home compared to his ERA on the road this season. Yarbrough also had issues in his lone start against Atlanta, giving up five runs in five innings of work. I’ll lay the juice with Atlanta here as I think this could be the start of a run for the Braves.
