The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet in an NL West division matchup on Friday night.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will try to build on a 6-3 win over the Diamondbacks on Thursday. A.J. Pollock led the Dodgers by going 2 for 5 with a double and a two-run home run while Corey Seager put up a solo homer as part of his two RBI day. Max Muncy also had a solo homer while Justin Turner chipped in an RBI as well to finish off L.A.’s scoring as a team in the win. Kike Hernandez and Mookie Betts each added a base hit as well in the winning effort for the Dodgers. Ross Stripling got the win to improve to 2-0 after allowing three runs on four hits over 5.1 innings of work. Pedro Baez got the save for his 1st of the season. Tony Gonsolin will start Friday’s game and was 4-2 with a 2.93 ERA and 37 strikeouts last season. In his career, Gonsolin is 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA and 8 strikeouts against Arizona.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to rebound after yet another disappointing loss in Thursday’s opener. Ketel Marte had a solo home run while Christian Walker and Carson Kelly each had a double and an RBI to round out Arizona’s offense as a team as the D-Backs had just five hits as a team in the losing effort with Marte and Kelly each going 2 for 4 at the dish. Robbie Ray took the loss, falling to 0-2 on the year after allowing five runs on five hits while striking out four over 4.2 innings of work. Zac Gallen will start Friday’s matchup and is 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 6 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gallen is 0-1 with a 3.48 ERA and 8 strikeouts against the Dodgers.
Los Angeles is 14-3 in their last 17 road games and 72-32 in their last 104 division games while the over is 7-1-1 in their last 9 Friday games. Arizona is 5-0 in their last 5 home games and 17-6 in their last 23 division games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall.
Gallen is one of my favorite pitchers in Arizona’s rotation, but in his first start, he struggled with control, issuing five walks, and those kind of mistakes are ones that the Dodgers will make you pay for if you give them the chance. Gonsolin isn’t a world-beater by any means and he had a ERA of 6.00 against Arizona last season, but the Diamondbacks just aren’t performing well offensively right now while the Dodgers are. Simple enough. I’ll lay the juice with the Dodgers in this spot.
