The Tampa Bay Rays and the Baltimore Orioles meet in an AL East division matchup from Camden Yards on Saturday night.
The Tampa Bay Rays will try to bounce back after a 6-3 loss to the O’s on Friday. Brandon Lowe hit a solo home run while Yoshi Tsutsugo and Hunter Renfroe each had a double and an RBI to round out Tampa Bay’s scoring in the loss. Ji-Man Choi, Willy Adames and Manuel Margot each added a double as well as all six of Tampa Bay’s base hits went for extra bases in the losing effort. Blake Snell allowed three runs on four hits while striking out four over three innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Peter Fairbanks took the loss, falling to 1-1 in relief this season. Tyler Glasnow will start Saturday’s game and is 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 9 strikeouts this season. In his career, Glasnow is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA and 20 strikeouts against Baltimore.
The Baltimore Orioles will look to carry over some momentum after their win on Friday. Anthony Santander led the way, going 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs while Hanser Alberto and Anthony Santander each had a solo home run with Alberto going 3 for 5 with a double as well while Santander went 2 for 4 at the dish. Renato Nunez and Rio Ruiz each had two hits with Nunez adding a double as well to cap off Baltimore’s offense in the victory. Alex Cobb allowed two runs on four hits over four innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Paul Fry got the win in relief to improve to 1-0 while Cole Sulser picked up his 2nd save of the year. Wade LeBlanc is expected to start here and is 1-0 with a 6.35 ERA and 4 strikeouts this season. This will be LeBlanc’s second career start against Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay is 0-6 in their last 6 road games and 13-5 in their last 18 division games while the under is 5-0-1 in their last 6 game two matchups. Baltimore is 27-61 in their last 88 home games and 14-39 in their last 53 games following a win while the over is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games overall. Tampa Bay is 16-7 in the last 23 meetings between these two teams.
The O’s have picked up some wins lately, but while LeBlanc got the win in his Orioles debut, he’s not going to get the benefit of playing a Boston team that hemorrhages runs in case he gives up a few himself like what happened in his debut, a 7-4 Baltimore win. Tampa Bay is a solid team that has a chance to win the AL East this year and Glasnow’s stuff on the mound is downright filthy and he can be lights out when he’s on. I’ll look for Glasnow to shut down the O’s and to help get Tampa Bay back on track here. Give me Tampa Bay on the run line to get the price on the Rays down a bit.
