The Chicago White Sox and the Kansas City Royals meet in an AL Central division matchup from Kauffman Stadium on Saturday night.
The Chicago White Sox come into this one looking to build off of a 3-2 win over the Royals on Saturday. Adam Engel accounted for all three White Sox runs with a three-run home run in the second inning while Tim Anderson went 2 for 3 with a double and Leury Garcia added a base hit of his own as the White Sox cranked out just four hits as a team in the winning effort. Dallas Keuchel got the win to improve to 2-0 after allowing two runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings of work. Alex Colome closed out the 9th for his 1st save of the season. Gio Gonzalez is expected to start here and is 0-0 with a 14.73 ERA and 3 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gonzalez is 4-3 with a 6.50 ERA and 39 strikeouts against Kansas City.
The Kansas City Royals will try to bounce back after a frustrating loss to the White Sox on Friday. Ryan McBroom went 2 for 4 with a double and a solo home run while Salvador Perez went 3 for 4 with an RBI as well to finish off KC’s scoring as a team in the losing effort. Adalberto Mondesi, Jorge Soler and Nicky Lopez each had a base hit as well to finish off the Royals’ offense in defeat. Kris Bubic took the loss, falling to 0-1 after allowing two runs on three hits while striking out three over four innings of work. Ronald Bolanos is expected to start here and is 0-1 with a 0.00 ERA and 1 strikeout this season. This will be Bolanos’ first career start against the White Sox.
Chicago is 6-2 in their last 8 games as a road favorite and 8-19 in their last 27 road games against a right-handed starter while the under is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record. Kansas City is 7-15 in their last 22 games overall and 19-42 in their last 61 games as a home underdog while the over is 7-2 in their last 9 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400. The over is 5-1-1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
This total seems high considering the two only combined for five runs on Friday. However, Gonzalez gave up six runs in 3.2 innings in his White Sox debut and while Bolanos had a solid record with the Padres last season, he still had an ERA just under six and has given up two runs (albeit unearned runs) in two innings in his first start. I think we could be in for a high-scoring game here, so I’ll side with the over as my free pick for this game.
