The Cleveland Indians and the Cincinnati Reds meet in MLB action from Great American Ballpark on Tuesday night.
The Cleveland Indians will look to rebound after a 3-2 loss to the Reds on Monday night. Francisco Lindor had a solo home run, going 2 for 4 at the dish while Cesar Hernandez, Carlos Santana and Oscar Mercado each had a base hit as well in the losing effort for the Indians as Cleveland cranked out just five hits as a team. Zach Plesac allowed three runs on four hits while striking out six over seven innings of work, taking the loss to fall to 0-1 on the year. Shane Bieber will start Tuesday’s game and is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 27 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bieber is 1-0 with a 3.65 ERA and 13 strikeouts against Cincinnati.
The Cincinnati Reds will look to build off of their opening win over Cleveland on Monday. Joey Votto had a home run and two RBIs while Nick Castellanos had a solo homer as well to round out Cincy’s scoring as a team in the winning effort. Freddy Galvis and Shogo Akiyama each had a base hit as well to round out the Reds’ offense as Cincinnati had just four hits as a team in victory. Sonny Gray got the win to improve to 3-0 on the year after giving up one run on four hits while striking out eight over six innings of work. Raisel Iglesias closed out the 9th for his 1st save of the year. Tyler Mahle will start Tuesday and is 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA and 4 strikeouts this season. In his career, Mahle is 0-2 with an 11.37 ERA and 8 strikeouts against Cleveland.
Cleveland is 47-21 in their last 68 games as a favorite and 1-4 in their last 5 games overall while the under is 7-0 in their last 7 games overall. Cincinnati is 2-8 in their last 10 home games and 1-5 in their last 6 games as a home underdog while the under is 9-3-1 in their last 13 games against the AL Central. Cleveland is 18-6 in the last 24 meetings between these two teams.
I get the Indians being favored with Bieber on the mound, but the Tribe are reeling right now with four straight losses and defeats in five of their last six games. Mahle looked capable in his first start and is looking to be a completely different pitcher than the one that went 3-12 a year ago. I think this one gets decided late but the Indians have been rock solid with Bieber on the hill so I’d lay the juice with Cleveland as my free pick but my stronger play is on the total which I have available as a premium pick that you can find here.
