The New York Mets and the Washington Nationals meet in an NL East division matchup from Nationals Park on Wednesday.

The New York Mets will look to rebound from a 5-3 loss to Washington on Tuesday. Michael Conforto led the Mets with two RBIs coming on a home run while Pete Alonso added an RBI as well to finish off the Mets’ scoring as a team in the loss. Andres Gimenez went 2 for 4 while Brandon Nimmo, J.D. Davis, Wilson Ramos, Brian Dozier, Ryan Cordell and Tomas Nido all had base hits to finish off New York’s offense as a team in defeat. Steven Matz took the loss, falling to 0-2 after allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out three over three innings of work. Rick Porcello will start this one and is 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA and 6 strikeouts this season. In his career, Porcello is 2-0 with a 3.21 ERA and 11 strikeouts against Washington.

The Washington Nationals will look to build off of Tuesday’s victory against the Mets. Josh Harrison led the Nats with two RBIs including a solo home run while Howie Kendrick went 4 for 4 with a solo homer and Starlin Castro went 2 for 4 with an RBI as well. Carter Kieboom chipped in an RBI to finish off Washington’s scoring as a team in the win while Asdrubal Cabrera went 2 for 4 with a double to finish off Washington’s offense in victory. Patrick Corbin got the win to improve to 1-0 after allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out eight over 5.2 innings of work. Daniel Hudson closed out the 9th for his 2nd save of the season. Max Scherzer will start this one and is 0-1 with a 2.84 ERA and 21 strikeouts this season. In his career, Scherzer is 10-5 with a 2.63 ERA and 183 strikeouts against the Mets.

New York is 1-5 in their last 6 games overall and 10-28 in their last 38 games as a road underdog while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a team with a losing record. Washington is 5-0 in their last 5 division games and 39-12 in their last 51 games as a home favorite while the under is 4-1-1 in their last 6 home games. The over is 3-0-1 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.

Usually I’d look right at the under when Max Scherzer is on the mound, but while the strikeouts have been there for Mad Max, he’s given up more runs than what we’ve been accustomed to seeing from Washington’s ace over the years. On the other side, Rick Porcello is starting for the Mets and he’s been terrible in a New York uniform early on, giving up nine earned runs across his two starts this season. I’ll side with the over as my free pick for this game but my stronger play is on the side and It’s available as a premium pick that you can find here.
