The Los Angeles Angels and the Texas Rangers meet Saturday in MLB action from Globe Life Field.
This will be the second matchup in a three-game weekend set between these teams. In the game one opener on Friday, the Rangers eked out a 4-3 victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks and MLB predictions at Sports Chat Place.
Los Angeles managed a nice win on Friday, out-hitting the Rangers 7-5 on the evening. The Angels posted three errors during the game however, and ultimately fell. Mike Trout posted a two-run homer with a 2-for-5 line. Starting pitcher Griffin Canning managed 3.2 innings with four runs (one earned), three hits and four strikeouts.
For the Saturday start, the Angels will send out Patrick Sandoval in the starting role. Last season, Sandoval posted an 0-4 record with a 5.03 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 39.1 innings of work. In one start during 2020, Sandoval has a 2.25 ERA with four Ks in 4.0 innings.
Over on the Rangers’ side, they were able to post a solid victory in the Friday game. Texas’ starter Jordan Lyles put up 5.1 innings with six hits, five strikeouts, three runs and two walks.
In the Saturday starting pitcher role, the Rangers will go with Kolby Allard. In 2019, Allard went 4-2 with a 4.96 ERA and 33 Ks in 45.1 innings of work. He’s started one game in 2020 and carries a 2.25 ERA with three strikeouts over 4.0 innings. Allard gave up six earned in five innings during his lone career start versus the Angels last season.

Pick: I’m going to stick with the Angels. Neither one of these teams has gotten off to a particularly good start in 2020, so this is an important weekend series. The good news for Texas is that Allard has looked pretty solid in his limited work this season, and this will be a nice opportunity to see what kind of role he could potentially fill moving forward. The Angels are simply a better team on paper however, and I feel like they’re the safer play.
