The Cincinnati Reds and the Milwaukee Brewers meet in an NL Central division matchup from Miller Park on Sunday.
The Cincinnati Reds will look to build off of a 4-1 win over the Brewers on Saturday. Eugenio Suarez led the Reds with a home run and three RBIs while Shogo Akiyama had a triple and an RBI to round out Cincy’s scoring as a team in the victory. Matt Davidson had a double while Freddy Galvis and Phillip Ervin each had a base hit as the Reds mustered up just five hits as a team in the win. Anthony DeSclafani got the win after tossing six shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six to improve to 1-0 while Raisel Iglesias closed out the 9th with a pair of strikeouts for his 2nd save of the year. Sonny Gray will start this one and is 3-0 with a 0.96 ERA and 28 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gray is 2-1 with a 2.29 ERA and 47 strikeouts against Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee Brewers will try to rebound from their loss to Cincinnati on Saturday. Brock Holt accounted for Milwaukee’s lone RBI while Ben Gamel had a double, Milwaukee’s only extra base hit in the loss. Eric Sogard and Omar Narvaez each chipped in base hits as well as the Brewers had just four hits as a team in the losing effort. Brett Anderson took the loss after allowing two runs on four hits while striking out a pair of 3.2 innings of work to fall to 0-1 on the year. Brandon Woodruff will start this one and is 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA and 21 strikeouts this season. In his career, Woodruff is 2-2 with a 4.58 ERA and 22 strikeouts against Cincinnati.
Cincinnati is 5-2 in their last 7 games within the division and 4-9 in their last 13 games as a road underdog while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win. Milwaukee is 5-11 in their last 16 games overall and 1-4 in their last 5 games as a favorite while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games as a home favorite. Cincinnati is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Milwaukee.
The first two games of this series have gone Cincinnati’s way and you’d have to think that the Brewers feel somewhat confident that they can take a game with Brandon Woodruff on the mound here. However, Cincinnati countering with Sonny Gray won’t make things easy on the Brew Crew to say the least. With that said, I expect the two starters to duel here, and I’m expecting another low-scoring game like what we saw Saturday. Give me the under as my free pick for this game but my stronger play is on the side and I have that available as a premium pick that you can find here.
