The Samsung Lions and Doosan Bears meet Wednesday morning in South Korea KBO baseball action at the Daegu Samsung Lions Park.
The Samsung Lions need a victory here after losing 11 of their last 14 games. The Samsung Lions have allowed five or more runs in eight of their last 14 games. In their latest effort, Kang Min-ho and Kim Heon-gon combined for four hits and one RBI while Won Tae-in allowed four runs and five hits in four innings of work. The Samsung Lions have lost 16 of their last 23 games overall. Choi Chae-heung gets the ball tonight for the Samsung Lions.
The Doosan Bears look for a victory after losing seven of their last 14 games. The Doosan Bears offense has produced five or more runs in 18 of their last 31 games. In their last effort, Park Kun-woo and Oh Jae-il combined for three hits and five RBI while Yu Hui-kwan allowed one run and seven hits in six innings of work. The Doosan Bears have won 27 of their last 41 games overall. Choi Won-joon gets the ball tonight for the Doosan Bears.
The Samsung Lions and Doosan Bears have split the last nine meetings down the middle at 4-4-1. Five of the last 11 meetings between the Bears and Lions have produced double-digit run totals.
It's hard to get a strong read on either of these teams that have had issues closing games and simply stop the losses from piling up lately. The Doosan Bears are playing the better baseball overall, but I'm not sure that means much when they've lost 50 percent of their last 14 games. Choi Chae-heung has been strong this season with a 3.42 ERA and 1.29 WHIP through 68.1 innings, and he's allowed two earned runs and 11 hits in his last 14.2 innings. Choi Won-joon has a 4.19 ERA and 1.40 WHIP through 53.2 innings, and he's allowed six earned runs and 17 hits in his last 9.2 innings.
The Samsung Lions have had their fair share of struggles lately, but we're getting the better and more consistent starting pitcher with the plus money. I'll lean toward Samsung in this contest.
