Chicago Cubs vs. St. Louis Cardinals – 8/18/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-08-18 20:15:00 EDT

The St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs meet Tuesday in MLB action at Wrigley Field.

The St. Louis Cardinals look for a win after splitting their last six games. The Cardinals have scored nine runs in their last three games and three or less runs in five of their last eight games. The Cardinals are 1-4 this season when scoring three or less runs. Paul Goldschmidt leads the Cardinals with 11 hits and three RBI while Dexter Fowler and Tommy Edman have combined for 15 hits and nine RBI. Daniel Ponce de Leon gets the ball, and he is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA and eight strikeouts this season. This will be Ponce de Leon’s second career game against the Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs look for a win after splitting their last 10 games. The Cubs have scored 11 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in eight of their last 11 games. The Cubs have won 11 of their last 14 games when scoring four or more runs. Ian Happ leads the Cubs with 19 hits and 12 RBI while Anthony Rizzo and Javier Baez have combined for 33 hits and 19 RBI. Yu Darvish gets the ball, and he is 3-1 with a 1.88 ERA and 27 strikeouts this season. Darvish is 0-2 with a 4.07 ERA and 31 strikeouts in his career against the Cardinals.

The Cardinals are 2-5 in their last 7 games as a road underdog, 2-5 in their last 7 road games and 1-4 in their last 5 during game 3 of a series. The Cubs are 9-3 in their last 12 games as a favorite, 6-2 in their last 8 games as a home favorite and 4-9 in their last 13 during game 3 of a series. The under is 6-1 in Cardinals last 7 overall. The under is 7-3 in Cubs last 10 games as a favorite. The over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.

Ponce de Leon has pitched just four innings this season and hasn’t pitched in three weeks, so there’s not much to go off of him at the moment. Darvish is off to a fabulous start, allowing five runs and 14 hits through 24 innings with 27 strikeouts and four walks. The Chicago Cubs offense is also scoring runs while the Cardinals have had issues out of the gate. The Cubs have the edge here across the board, so you can argue this price should be a lot steeper. I’ll lay the juice with the Cubs in this spot.
