2020-08-18 20:10:00 EDT

The Milwaukee Brewers and the Minnesota Twins meet Tuesday in MLB action from Target Field.

Milwaukee is coming off a weekend series versus the Cubs. After losing the first game 4-2, Milwaukee took a 4-3 victory Friday and a pair of 6-5 wins over the weekend to take the set 3-1. As for the Twins, they just finished up against the Royals, splitting a doubleheader Saturday and getting a 4-2 win Sunday. In the Monday series finale, Minnesota powered out a 4-1 victory. Milwaukee has been pretty inconsistent when it comes to hitting this season, but does have a few bright spots. Keston Hiura and Christian Yelich lead the team with five home runs apiece, with a combined 23 RBI and 21 runs between them. Neither player’s BA is great, though; Hiura has a .225 and Yelich sits at .194 so far. Guys like Orlando Arcia (.304 BA) and Manny Pina (.333 BA) have been able to find success fairly regularly however.

For the Tuesday starting role, the Brewers will send out Corbin Burnes. In four games (one start) without a decision so far this year, Burnes has a 3.38 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 16.0 innings of work. On his career, Burnes is 8-5 with a 5.68 ERA and 129 Ks in 103.0 innings.

Over on the Twins’ side, they had a nice offensive effort overall on Monday, and three players had multiple hits. Nelson Cruz led the way on a solo homer, two hits and two RBI. Devin Smeltzer got the pitching win on 2.2 innings, one hit and no earned.

For the Tuesday start, Minnesota will send Kenta Maeda out to the mound. In his four starts this season, Maeda is 3-0 with a 2.66 ERA and 21 Ks in 23.2 innings of work. Maeda is 50-35 on his MLB career with a 3.82 ERA And 662 Ks in 612.2 innings.

The Brewers are 6-1 in their last seven road games and 4-1 in their last five games as a road underdog. Milwaukee is 1-5 in their last six games following an off day and 0-4 in their last four during game one of a series.

Meanwhile, the Twins are 9-1 in their last 10 Tuesday games and 42-19 in their last 61 during game one of a series. The under is 13-3 in the Twins’ last 16 during game one of a series and 14-5 in their last 19 overall.

Pick: Going Twins here. This should be a pretty interesting starting pitcher matchup, though. Burnes has 13.5 strikeouts per nine innings so far and is potentially a strong option as an opener. Then there’s Maeda, who has tossed three straight quality starts and went 6.2 innings (a season-high) versus the Brewers on Wednesday. He’s also got just four walks in 23.2 innings, so it’ll be tough for Milwaukee to find much success if Maeda is on.
