The Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles meet Friday in MLB action from Oriole Park.

This will be the second installment of a four-game weekend series between these American League East teams. In the opener on Thursday, the Red Sox took a 3-1 lead into the ninth and exploded for four more runs in the final frame during a dominant 7-1 victory. The Red Sox out-hit the Orioles 12-5 in the win Thursday. Four different Boston players had multiple hits, highlighted by Xander Bogaerts’ 3-for-5 night with two RBI, two runs and a homer. Starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi went 7.0 innings with five hits, one earned and six strikeouts.

For the Friday game, the Red Sox will send out Colten Brewer in the starting pitcher role. Over eight games (one start) this season, Brewer is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 14.0 innings of work. On his career, Brewer is 2-3 with a 4.37 ERA and 77 Ks in 78.1 total innings.

Over on the Orioles’ side, starting pitcher Asher Wojciechowski did what he could Thursday, but ultimately took the loss on 3.2 innings, seven hits and three earned. Baltimore struck out 10 times as a team and left seven men on base in a very tepid offensive outing.

In Friday’s starting outing, the Orioles are going with lefty John Means. Over three starts this season, Means has an 0-1 record with a 10.57 ERA and six strikeouts in 7.2 innings of work. Over his career, Means is 12-12 with a 4.12 ERA and 131 Ks in 166.0 frames.

The Red Sox are 35-16 in the last 51 meetings between these teams and 21-6 in the least 27 meetings between these teams in Baltimore. The under is 3-1-1 in the last five meetings and the over is 4-1-1 in the last six meetings in Baltimore.

The Orioles are 23-48 in their last 71 Friday games and 117-255 in their last 372 games overall. Baltimore is also 30-69 in their last 99 home games and 29-69 in their last 98 home games versus a right-handed starter.

Pick: I’m leaning toward the Red Sox here, but with the patchwork pitching these days, who knows? In any case, Means will probably not be in the game for very long here. The Orioles are still building him back up following some missed time due to bereavement leave. That means it’s going to be a pen-heavy game. Brewer won't be in very long on the other side, so we should see several different pitchers on the mound here. And even though I don’t trust Boston’s pen, I trust the Orioles offense less. This is really a coin-flip game, but I think Boston can eke one out.

Andrew’s Pick Boston Red Sox -110
