Cleveland Indians vs. Detroit Tigers – 8/22/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-08-22 19:10:00 EDT

The Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Indians meet in an AL Central division matchup from Progressive Field on Saturday.

The Detroit Tigers will look to build on their 10-5 win over Cleveland from Friday night. Isaac Paredes led Detroit with four RBIs after a grand slam in the 4th inning while Jonathan Schoop went 4 for 5 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Jeimer Candelario had two RBIs as well while Victor Reyes went 2 for 5 with a solo home run and Austin Romine added an RBI as well to finish off Detroit’s scoring as a team in the win. JaCoby Jones went 2 for 5 and Miguel Cabrera had a base knock as well in the victory for the Tigers. Michael Fulmer allowed five runs on five hits while striking out four over three innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Rony Garcia got the win to improve to 1-0 on the year in relief. Matt Boyd will start here and is 0-3 with a 9.64 ERA and 27 strikeouts this season. In his career, Boyd is 2-4 with a 3.79 ERA and 55 strikeouts against Cleveland.

The Cleveland Indians will try to rebound from their loss to Detroit on Friday. Franmil Reyes had a home run and two RBIs while Tyler Naquin had a double and an RBI. Domingo Santana and Delino DsShields each had an RBI to cap off Cleveland’s scoring while Cesar Hernandez added a double, going 2 for 4 at the dish. Francisco Lindor had a pair of hits while Roberto Perez and Carlos Santana each had base hits as well to finish off the offense for Cleveland in the losing effort. Adam Plutko took the loss, falling to 1-2 after allowing seven runs on five hits over 3.1 innings of work. Triston McKenzie will make his major league debut here after not having pitched since 2018 in AA.

Detroit is 38-108 in their last 146 games overall and 10-51 in their last 61 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 12-5 in their last 17 road games. Cleveland is 6-1 in their last 7 games overall and 12-5 in their last 17 home games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a left-handed starter. Detroit is 8-45 in the last 53 meetings between these two teams.

Man who knows what we’re going to see here after a wild game on Friday. Detroit snaps their ugly losing streak against Cleveland but now have to send Matt Boyd to the mound. On the other hand, who knows what we’re going to see from Triston McKenzie for Cleveland, as he was a AA pitcher at best before having to sit out all of 2019 due to injury and now coming in against a major league team, and as bad as Detroit is, yes they’re still a major league team, isn’t the most ideal sounding situation, with a huge chunk of Cleveland’s bullpen being used in Friday’s loss. Instead of laying juice with Cleveland or trying to chase the run line, and instead of having to back Detroit, I’ll side with the over. I think Boyd gets roughed up again and even on a short leash, I think McKenzie gets touched up as well.
