The Los Angeles Angels and the Oakland A’s meet in an AL West division matchup from the Oakland Coliseum on Saturday.
The Los Angeles Angels come into this one looking to bounce back after a 5-3 loss to Oakland in Friday’s matchup. Mike Trout had two RBIs for the Halos while Anthony Rendon went 4 for 5 with an RBI to cap off the Angels’ scoring as a team in the loss. David Fletcher went 3 for 5 with a double and Albert Pujols added a double as well while Andrelton Simmons chipped in a 2 for 4 day at the dish to finish off L.A.’s scoring as a team in the loss. Andrew Heaney took the L on the mound after allowing five runs on six hits while striking out six over 4.2 innings of work to drop to 1-2 on the year. Griffin Canning will start here and is 0-3 with a 4.70 ERA and 20 strikeouts this season. In his career, Canning is 1-3 with a 4.73 ERA and 28 strikeouts against Oakland.
The Oakland A’s will look to keep the ball rolling after their win over the Halos on Friday. Stephen Piscotty led the way by going 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs while Marcus Semien delivered a lead-off home run and Matt Olson chipped in a double and an RBI to cap off Oakland’s scoring as a team in the win. Mark Canha went 2 for 3 at the dish while Matt Chapman had a double and Sean Murphy added a base knock as well to finish off the A’s offense. Mike Fiers got the win to improve to 3-1 after allowing just three runs on seven hits while striking out three over 5.1 innings of work. Liam Hendriks closed out the 9th for his 9th save. Chris Bassitt will start here and is 2-0 with a 2.93 ERA and 22 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bassitt is 3-2 with a 5.52 ERA and 31 strikeouts against the Angels.
Los Angeles is 11-27 in their last 38 games within the division and 12-39 in their last 51 games as an underdog while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record. Oakland is 38-13 in their last 51 home games and 40-15 in their last 55 games within the division while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games as a home favorite. Los Angeles is 4-11 in the last 15 meetings between these two teams and 1-6 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Oakland.
These two surprisingly stayed under the number with a questionable pitching matchup on Friday, and now the line hits almost double-digits with a strong arm like Bassitt and a capable hurler like Canning on the other side? Maybe I’m wrong but I think both of these guys can put up a solid outing and the Angels haven’t done much of anything lately on offense to make me think they can contribute to this total. If the Halos want their chance here, Canning has to keep them in the game and I think he does that so I’ll take the under as my free pick for this game, but my stronger play is on the side and I have that available as a premium play that you can find here.
