Chicago White Sox vs. Pittsburgh Pirates – 8/26/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-08-26 14:10:00 EDT

The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago White Sox meet Wednesday in MLB action from Guaranteed Rate Field.

This will be the second installment of a quick two-game set between these teams this week. In the opener on Tuesday, we had a really quick game (2:23 to be exact) as the White Sox enjoyed a no-hitter on the way to a 4-0 win. The Pirates were flummoxed by Lucas Giolito in the Tuesday loss, and couldn’t muster up any hits at all. The Pirates’ lone baserunner came on a walk. The offensive futility meant a loss for starter Steven Brault, who went 3.0 innings with five hits and four earned runs with four walks. Outside of that, the Pittsburgh pen gave up four hits and no runs.

For the Wednesday game, Pittsburgh will send out Trevor Williams in the starting role. Over his five starts so far this season, Williams is 1-4 with a 3.70 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 24.1 innings of work. Across his career, Williams is 30-33 with a 4.20 ERA and 390 strikeouts in 503.2 innings total.

Over on the White Sox’ side, it was the Giolito show on Tuesday, as he cruised to a no-hitter effort. Giolito struck out 13 batters there as well. Offensively Chicago came up with nine hits on the night, and Luis Robert had three of them with a run.

For the Wednesday game, the White Sox will go with Dallas Keuchel in the start. In six starts during 2020 so far, Keuchel is 4-2 with a 2.65 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 37.1 innings. Keuchel is 88-73 over his MLB career with a 3.64 ERA and 1055 strikeouts in 1339.1 innings total.

The Pirates are 32-65 in their last 97 overall and 7-19 in their last 26 games versus a left-handed starter. Pittsburgh is 16-42 in their last 58 games as a road underdog and 1-4 in their last five Wednesday games as well.

Meanwhile, the White Sox are 21-46 in their last 67 interleague games and 5-2 in their last seven during game two of a series. Chicago is also 5-1 in their last six Wednesday games and the over is 4-0 in their last four during game two of a series.

Pick: Going White Sox here. I do think Williams will be effective on the other side for the Pirates; he posted five strikeouts and one run on six hits in four innings during his last outing. Williams now has a 2.81 ERA in three starts this month. As for Keuchel he went eight innings and 114 pitches in a win over the Cubs on Friday, and though he’s not a strikeout machine he gets the job done. Keuchel should have Chicago in a good position in this one.
