Tampa Bay Rays vs. Baltimore Orioles – 8/26/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-08-26 18:40:00 EDT

The Tampa Bay Rays and the Baltimore Orioles meet in an AL East division matchup from Tropicana Field on Wednesday night.

The Baltimore Orioles will try to rebound after taking a 4-2 loss to the Rays on Tuesday night. Renato Nunez had a solo home run while Ryan Mountcastle added an RBI as well to cap off Baltimore’s offense as a team in the losing effort. Hanser Alberto had two hits while Chance Sisco and Mason Williams each had a base hit to finish off the offense for Baltimore in defeat. Tommy Milone took the loss, falling to 1-4 after allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six over 5.1 innings of work. Asher Wojciechowski will start here for Baltimore and is 1-2 with a 4.84 ERA and 21 strikeouts this season. In his career, Wojciechowski is 0-1 with a 5.00 ERA and 15 strikeouts against Tampa Bay.

The Tampa Bay Rays will try to build off of Tuesday’s win in impressively defensive fashion. Hunter Renfroe had a two-run home run while Manuel Margot had a solo home run and Ji-Man Choi added an RBI as well in the winning effort. Willy Adames had a double while Michael Brosseau, Yandy Diaz and Yoshi Tsutsugo each had a base hit to finish off the Rays’ offense as a team in the win. Tyler Glasnow got the victory, improving to 1-1 after giving up just two runs on five hits while striking out 13 over seven innings of work. Edgar Garcia closed things out for his 1st save of the year. Trevor Richards will start here and is 0-0 with a 5.94 ERA and 13 strikeouts this season. In his career, Richards is 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA and 13 strikeouts against Baltimore.

Baltimore is 58-131 in their last 189 road games and 52-141 in their last 193 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games within the division. Tampa Bay is 16-5 in their last 21 games overall and 37-16 in their last 53 home games while the over is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record.

The Orioles would be worth a look if they’d be able to consistently string performances together, but we saw the sluggish play carry over into Tuesday’s game and I’m worried it’ll happen here as well. In Wojciechowski’s five starts this year, the Orioles have scored three runs or less in four of those five games and a lack of run support isn’t something you want against the Rays. I think the Rays come out strong and get behind Richards so I’ll take the Tampa Bay Rays in this one.
